Dave Gunton established a branch of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) in Edmonton, and was the first Canadian-born citizen to be ordained a minister in the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. In May 1978 he became Canadian coordinator of the national organization of MCC.
