Harvey Hamburg was an early organizer of Ha Mishpacha, a Toronto newsletter for gay, jewish people, and was the spokesperson for Toronto Area Gays in 1976. In 1978, he coordinated “Gaydays: In Celebration of Lesbians and Gay Men,” a cultural festival meant to inform and entertain gay people. Hamburg also founded the Gay Community Appeal of Toronto in 1979, which raised funds to support gay community projects. MCC Toronto gave him a certificate of appreciation for bettering the gay community at the Festival of Love in September 1980.
