Herb Spiers – Prosopography

Herbert Spiers was an American who came to Canada to attend the University of Toronto. He was a founding member of Toronto Gay Action, and openly identified as gay. He was the author of We Demand (1971), which served as a manifesto for gay rights in Canada, and is noted as being one of the most important pieces of writing for gay rights in the countrys history. He was also involved in the publication of the Body Politic.
