Hugh Poulin was a member of the Liberal Party in the House of Commons. He was named the national ‘Homophobe-of-the-year’ of the annual Oscar Wilde Awards in 1976 by Gays of Ottawa (GO). This was because he was the MP of the riding GO’s offices were located in, and in 1976 and 1977 he twice blocked the organization from receiving government grants.
