John Sawatsky was an author and journalist. His book “Men in the Shadows: The RCMP Security Service” (1980) exposed the RCMP’s persecution of homosexuals in the Canadian civil service during the 1950s and 1960s. The book also described the failed attempt at creating the “Fruit Machine,” a device that could detect sexual orientation and inversion.
