He directed the short film “In Black and White” which was about the police harassment of men who cruise public washrooms. His film was rejected for showing at the British Columbia Student Film Festival due to its theme. His second film, “The Front Lawn,” was completed posthumously in 1990. McGarry had died of AIDS in Toronto the year before.
