Richard North

Richard North was a gay-rights activist in Manitoba. In February 1974, North married his partner Chris Vogel in Winnipeg, the second time in Canadian history that a gay couple sought legal sanction. The marriage was not recognized by the province. North was part of Project Lambda, an apolitical agency with the goal of promiting acceptance and understanding of homosexuality. In 1980 he planned to open a gay cafe to help fund the project.
