Alain Méthot was an Ottawa police sergeant of the morality squad who was charged with assault causing bodily harm in 1976 for his part in the “Ottawa Sex Scandal,” a 1975 male prostitution case. The charges were later dropped. When Gays of Ottawa announced the winners of their 1976 Oscar Wilde Awards for Homophobe-of-the-Year award in January 1977, Méthot ‘won’ in a tie with his colleague Robert Gervais for the local level.
