Allan Sparrow

Allan Sparrow was a Toronto Alderman who spoke out against police harassment of homosexuals and police entrapment of cruising gay men. In September, 1977 he called a press conference to distance himself from the “runaway repressive atmosphere being generated by events in the downtown core,” specifically the repression of the gay community and the push to clean Yonge Street following the murder of Emanuel Jaques. He was one of three politicians contacted by GATE to help curb homophobic mob attacks in Toronto during Halloween that year. MCC Toronto gave him a certificate of appreciation for bettering the gay community at the Festival of Love in September, 1980.
