Brian Marsh was a gay man and president of the McMaster Homophile Association. In June 1976 he received a letter from Stuart Smith, the leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, declaring party support for a sexual orientation clause to be added to the Ontario Human Rights Code. This may have been the first public statement on gay rights ever issued by the party.
