John Mikulik was the owner of The Montreal Club in the early 1960s, which may have been Vancouver’s first real gay club. He and his partner Jim Brand were among the founders of the The Border Riders, the first gay biker club in Vancouver. In 1971 they created The Playpen, Vancouvers first leather-scene hangout.
