Michael Roberts was an organizer of Gay Alliance toward Equality (GATE) Edmonton and one of the citys first openly gay public activists. He contributed to periodicals including Gateway and the Georgia Straight. Roberts also started ‘Gay Media’, which produced and distributed gay videos and audio tapes, in 1974.
