Simma Holt was a journalist and the first Jewish woman elected to Parliament. She spent three decades at the Vancouver Sun, covering the police and courts. From 1974 to 1979 she served as a Liberal MP representing Vancouver-Kingsway. During her time as MP, she chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. She was awarded the Order of Canada in 1996.
