He was denied custody of a twelve-year-old mentally handicapped boy because the Foster Care Department of the Alberta government discovered he was gay. This was despite his exceptional qualifications and the fact that he had been helping the boy for two years. The boy’s natural parents also knew of Kissinger’s sexual orientation and fully supported the application.
