Barry Tulip

Barry Tulip was a community youth worker and school trustee of Toronto Ward 7. He worked with the YMCA helping street involved youth and with the Department of Corrections and Canadian Mental Health Association to set up group homes for youth released from juvenile detention. In November 1978 he was arrested in an Eaton’s washroom and charged with gross indecency. Tulip was one of seventy-four men arrested during police stake-outs of the washrooms. Tulip denied being gay and described the case as a police “set-up” in retribution for his work in family court getting youth released on probation.
