Barbara Schifler was a Toronto lawyer who was assaulted and murdered on April 11, 1980, sparking a “Take Back the Night” march by women who protesting violence against women. Both CHUM-FM and City Pulse news on CITY-TV speculated that she had been killed in a fit of “lesbian rage,” though there was no evidence for this and the theory was soon dropped. On May 2, 1984, Fernand Arthur Robinson was found guilty of first degree murder in the case. He had been only fifteen years old at the time of the murder.
