Miss D is the known name of a transsexual woman who was discriminated against in Montreal in May 1980. She was forced to leave the Casse Croute Allemande restaurant because the owner allegedly said did not want men dressed as women, or prostitutes, in her restaurant. Miss D filed a complaint for $1,000 in damages, charging the owner with discrimination based on sexual orienation. In April 1982 she won the case under the ruling of Pierre Durand and received $500 in “moral damages” plus interest and court costs.
