Brian Mossop met with the minorities subcommittee of the Metropolitan Board of Commissioners of Police in Toronto to demand an end to police entrapment of gays in parks and washrooms. He was also expelled from the Communist Party of Canada in 1976 for “exhibiting an openly hostile attitude toward the Party,” this likely being an excuse since he advocated homosexuality publicly which was against party rules. In 1977 he demanded an apology from Errol Townshend, the editor of The Islander newspaper who published an editorial attacking gays and their supporters, and instead received a vitriolic response saying “Now, drop dead. But get one thing straight before you do: Blacks and your crowd are not in the same boat.”
