Eddie Keehn was an Edmonton mayoral candidate in the 1977 election run. He was a ‘militant Christian’ who called for the firing of gay and lesbian city employees during the campaign, as well as the closure of gay clubs. He threatened to disrupt an event where John Damien would be speaking that October, but didn’t show. Keehn lost the election. In 1981 he was one of several reporters that sensationalized the case of Elaine Kuresh, who had been charged with gross indecency, driving her to suicide.
