Edward Albee was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright known for his play “Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?.” In 1973, an altered version of the play opened in MontrĂ©al in which the lead characters were gay. It was stopped by Albee after the first show. Albee was also the recipient of Kennedy Honors, the National Medal of the Arts, and a Tony Lifetime Achievement Award.
