Jaime Smith is an astronomer turned psychiatrist. Born in the United States, he moved with his family to Canada in 1966 in protest of US involvement in Vietnam. He ran a psychiatric practice in Vancouver with a clinical focus on homosexuality. He was a director of SEARCH (Society for Education Action Research and Counselling on Homosexuality) and contributed to the removal of homosexuality from the list of psychiatric disorders.
