John Harnick was the manager of Club Ottawa, a gay club. In June 1981 he went with Gays of Ottawa representatice John Duggan (#JDUGG) to meet with the Ottawa police. The community had come to fear that the police were planning to raid Club Ottawa, but the police stated that they had no concerns with Club Ottawa at the time, and they would not need to investigate it if it continued to be operated in the same manner.
