Together with his partner Kathy Rankin (#KRAN), he founded a group called Straights Against Discrimination in June 1981. The group organized a demonstration in front of the Edmonton city hall to protest the police raid of the Pisces Spa (#PSPA). More than a hundred people attended, and representatives of the gay community, as well as religious and labour community groups, all spoke and condemned the raid.
