Phyllis Lyon was a lesbian feminist and gay rights activist. She was a co-founder of The Daughters of Bilitis, an American lesbian organization. She and her wife Del Martin were the first same sex couple to be married in San Francisco in 2004, but the marriage was nullified. In 2008 they were the first same-sex couple to be married in San Francisco after same-sex marriage was legalized in California.
