Saul David Betesh

Saul David Betesh was found guilty of first-degree murder in the sexual assault and slaying of Emanuel Jaques in 1978, and was sentenced to life in prison. The gay community was drawn into the case partly because Betesh contacted Community Homophile Association Toronto (CHAT) president George Hislop to ask for advice after the murder. In 1980, while in prison in protective custody, Betesh was stabbed in the throat by Josef Paul Woods, but recovered.
