Wendell MacKay

He was Deputy Justice Minister of Prince Edward Island. In February 1978 he was arrested and charged with gross indecency in a Halifax washroom, alongside seven other men. They appeared in court on 28 February. The incident became a media fiasco and the names of the men were spread in newspapers, over radio broadcasts, and on televised national news. Wendell MacKay inflicted gunshot wounds upon himself, but survived and spent time in hospital before being acquitted.
